Sheet Metal Baskets for holding parts in conveyor lines or in dipping tanks is a common application when the environment is rough and the acids are caustic. Marlin Steel designs and engineers stainless baskets for industrial applications where precision made parts need chips and debris to be removed so the surface area is clean for medical, pharmaceutical, military, industrial, aerospace and automotive clients.

Recently, Marlin Steel mechanical engineers designed a basket for Merck that was made with 316 grade stainless steel for a clean room environment. The basket had a easily removable lid and was built with a set of handles. The client was delighted with the quality and speed of delivery for their metal baskets.

In a more brutal environment, Marlin Steel shipped early baskets for Cummins Engine. These baskets were created to withstand abuse of material handling and acids in the cleaning solution. This basket built in a robust manner is designed to withstand tough operators that are moving quickly. Cummins Engine was so pleased; they reordered more baskets upon receipt of their first order.

The sheet metal baskets were formed on Marlin Steel's new CNC Punch press that moves sheet metal automatically at 8 feet per second and strokes with tons of force 900 times per minute. The sheet metal robot is the fastest sheet metal robot in the world and provides the best quality in the world. The tolerances on the USA made Punch press is +/-0.1mm (0.004") which raises the bar for quality. In addition, Marlin Steel's CNC punch press forms up flanges into the z axis 1" high so parts can be made complete on the Punch press. In the past forming of sheet metal had to be done as a secondary operation. In addition, Marlin Steel has an integrated roll forming threading system so all threads are done at the precision and speed of a CNC turret punch and not in a sloppy secondary format with PEMS that fail or are placed in the wrong location.

Marlin Steel's punch press automatically loads and unloads material running all night nightly to meet the demands of a Chicago client that used to buy from CHINA. The improved quality and on time delivery by Marlin Steel forced the switch for the Midwestern client. Beating China on price and quality is very motivational for the Marlin Steel robot operators and set up team. Marlin Steel's edge has allowed Marlin Steel to export to China and thirty other countries around the world.
